The Story Behind the Ériu Collection
The Ériu Collection began with a quiet pull towards Irish mythology, old Goddess stories, and the feeling that these stories still have something to say.
I was drawn to the strength, wildness, creativity, and depth within the Irish Goddesses. Especially as a woman in my early 50s, their stories felt relevant.
They speak of change, voice, sovereignty, beauty, wisdom, grief, growth, and belonging.
This collection is built around seven Goddess inspired designs: Ériu, Brigid, Danu, Áine, The Cailleach, Clíodhna, and Maeve. Each one was chosen because I felt drawn to her in some way. Some came easily. Others took a lot more work.
At the centre of the collection is Ériu. Ireland itself is named after her, so she became the grounding piece, the one that holds everything together.
For me, she represents land, identity, home, and belonging.
The Design Process
I didn’t want this collection to feel obvious or overly “Celtic”. I wanted something softer, older, and more personal.
Each Goddess has her own carved symbol language, and that same carving appears across the stud, the drop earring, and the pendant. The size and shape may change, but the feeling stays the same.
Brigid carries creativity and renewal. Danu has a softer, flowing energy. Áine brings warmth and summer. The Cailleach feels older and more elemental, stone, winter, wisdom. Clíodhna is connected to the sea and the ninth wave. Maeve brings sovereignty and the presence of Knocknarea. Ériu grounds them all.
Each piece started with sketches and a lot of trial and error. The challenge was to create jewellery that carried meaning but was still wearable, lightweight, and comfortable.
Once the shapes were finalised, I made custom cutters for each piece, a slow, practical process. A shape might look lovely on paper, but it still has to cut cleanly, hang properly, and hold the carved detail in the clay.
Handmade with Meaning
The colours were just as important as the shapes. I wanted the palette to feel ancient, Irish, earthy, and wearable. Not too bright. Not too flat. Not too polished.
Every piece in the Ériu Collection is handmade in polymer clay, mixed, rolled, cut, imprinted, baked, sanded, finished, drilled, and assembled by hand.
The larger pieces are designed to make a statement, but they are still lightweight and comfortable to wear.
Because each piece is handmade, there will always be small differences in colour, texture, and carving. That is part of the beauty of it.
What this collection means to me
What this collection means to me
Ériu has been one of the most personal collections I have made. It took months of designing, testing, changing, and refining. But it also felt like the right collection to make at this point in my life.
It is about Irish mythology, yes. But it is also about women — about all the versions of ourselves we carry. Soft and strong. Creative and tired. Wild and grounded. Changing and still becoming.
I hope each piece feels like more than an accessory. I hope it carries a small thread of story, meaning, and connection. And maybe, as you look through the collection, one Goddess will feel like she is yours.
